Stories Of The Light
Since 2015, artist Richard McLester and his team have been talking and filming various members of local communities where The Light has travelled to.
We’ve been discussing the themes of darkness to light, journey and mental health.
Although initially these conversations were about informing our work on the project, the results were so moving that we felt we had to share them as part of the project.

How Do The Stories Fit In?
During the live performance, the stories are projected out either onto screens or the globe itself.
This allows members of the community to have a voice into the performance, even though they may not be able to join us on the night.
To see how we involved the stories as part of the project in Poole, watch the short film on Youtube here…
Real Stories, Real People
The interviews that we used to film these clips took the form of open conversations. There were no leading questions and those who were filmed were just invited to offer up thoughts on subjects.
As a result, the filmed conversations are much longer than the final clips we’ve chosen to use. In total, we’ve shot over 50 hours of interview material. Some conversations last over an hour in themselves.
Giant Projection Screens
At the beginning of 2018, combining the projection technology we designed for the inside of the Globe we built giant screens to help tell these stories during the performances. Sewing enthusiast Stephanie helped us by sewing together over 50 metres of fabric.
Each screen is 3 metres tall and almost 4 metres wide… and for the performances in Salisbury we’ll be using 6 screens.
